A First Sergeant and a reckless driver would reconnect for their second pursuit. Unfortunately for the reckless driver, he would be caught red handed this time.

On March 27th at approximately 6:40 p.m. First Sergeant A.I. Assur was traveling Northbound on Richmond Highway near Centreport parkway. While doing so, he observed a Mercedes traveling 64 MPH in a 45 MPH zone and attempted a traffic stop. The Mercedes maniac would have different plans as he abruptly turned onto Southbound I-95, resulting in a pursuit. Due to the traffic in the area and the disregard for the safety of others by the driver, First Sergeant Assur made the wise decision to terminate the pursuit.

Anyone who knows First Sergeant Assur knows that is not where the story ends. Since then, he has been working on collecting evidence and information regarding the driver so charges could be obtained when he was identified. First Sergeant Assur would have his hard work pay off Tuesday afternoon.

On April 29th at approximately 4:12 p.m. First Sergeant Assur had a moment of déjà vu when he observed the same Mercedes being driven by the same driver on White Oak Road. The only difference was now the vehicle had a fictitious inspection sticker. Once again, First Sergeant Assur attempted a traffic stop and once again the driver took off. That being said, armed with more information on round two, First Sergeant Assur strategically had deputies respond to the suspect’s residence. Shortly after his second fleeing, the driver arrived and was met by the awaiting deputies.

The suspect was identified as Carlos Lara Sanchez, 20, of Stafford. For his first pursuit he was charged with felony eluding, speeding, having no inspection, and having no registration. For his second pursuit, he was charged with felony eluding, having no inspection, and being in possession of a fictitious inspection sticker. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Amazing work to First Sergeant Assur for remaining committed and vigilant in locating a reckless driver.
