A 48-year-old Stafford man playing around on Richmond Highway was arrested after being unable to outrun deputies.

On April 20th, at approximately 4:01 p.m., Deputy R.W. Stamm was traveling northbound in the 1400 block of Richmond Highway. While doing so, he observed a Toyota in the southbound lanes traveling 71 MPH in a 50 MPH zone. As Deputy Stamm conducted a U-turn to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle quickly accelerated, kicking off a pursuit.

Deputies gave chase to the vehicle as it continued to gain speed. In the 1100 block of Richmond Highway the driver observed a deputy in front of him and quickly conducted a U-turn in the middle of the road to travel northbound. This gave deputies an opportunity to catch up to the driver. With no escape in sight, the driver gave up and pulled over at Perchwood Drive. The driver was detained shortly after.

The driver, identified as Eric Boling, advised he was just “monkeying around” and conducting a bit of “horseplay.” His horse playing resulted in his vehicle being towed and him being charged with felony eluding and reckless driving. Boling was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,000 secured bond.
