The infamous jury duty scam is on the rise once again in Stafford County.

Recently, a Stafford citizen reported an attempted scam. The citizen received a call from someone posing as “Jason Dembowski,” noting the fact the caller did not provide his rank. The suspect informed the citizen she missed jury duty and would be arrested “today” for not showing up.

Thinking this was a scam, the suspect was questioned on who the Sheriff was. After a noticeable pause, the citizen knew the suspect was not the real deal. The citizen went above and beyond to check with Stafford Courts to ensure she did not miss jury duty.

If you receive a call from anyone posing as a deputy asking for money, this is a scam. Hang up immediately and inform the Sheriff’s Office like this citizen did.
