A Suffolk man wanted for charges related to his second DUI earned his third DUI while speeding in Stafford.
On April 4th at approximately 12:56 a.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci was traveling Southbound on I-95 when he observed a Hyundai traveling at a rapid speed. Sergeant Demirci continued to follow the vehicle as it took the 140 exit and began traveling over the fog line. A traffic stop was conducted on Bradburn Lane as Deputy H.R. Perkins responded to assist.
The driver was identified as Dion Gaines, 37. Gaines displayed signs of intoxication throughout his conversation with deputies, including glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Before field sobriety tests could be started, Gaines began dumping all his trash onto the street in front of deputies. It was quickly discovered this was not his first rodeo, for he was wanted out of Suffolk for a capias offense related to his second DUI. Gaines was detained shortly after.
Gaines was charged with driving under the influence third offense within ten years, second offense driving while revoked, second offense refusal, speeding, driving after forfeiture of his license, the traffic lane violation, and littering. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
