A 61-year-old passenger caused an accident in South Stafford before physically assaulting Fire and Rescue staff.
On April 1st at approximately 8:11 p.m. Deputy A.J. Charoenthep responded to the area of Warrenton Road and Cedar Grove Road for an auto accident. A Dodge Charger struck a tractor trailer, causing it to spin out before coming to a rest in the median. Within the Charger was the driver, a juvenile passenger, and a front passenger, identified as Stanley Oliver Jr., of Warrenton.
It was discovered the driver picked up Oliver in an intoxicated state. While traveling, Oliver reached over, grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it, causing the crash. All occupants were transported to a nearby hospital out of an abundance of caution. When Deputy Charoenthep made contact with Oliver, he observed extreme signs of intoxication. During a search incident to arrest, suspected controlled substances were located on his person.
While Oliver was being transported in an ambulance, his uncooperative behavior would escalate as he assaulted Fire and Rescue staff. Luckily, no staff members were injured. After being medically cleared, Oliver was charged with driving under the influence, possession of controlled substances, three counts of assault and battery on rescue staff, child neglect, interfering with driver control, and driving without a license. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
