A Stafford County Deputy was injured during an unprovoked attack at Mary Washington Hospital yesterday.
On March 10th at approximately 12:13 p.m. a deputy with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office was assisting a person who voluntarily wanted mental health resources. The deputy brought the person to Mary Washington Hospital, located at 1001 Sam Perry Boulevard. While assisting that individual, the deputy would observe a male he was familiar with due to prior encounters. The male was unrelated to the incident the deputy was handling.
The male, identified as Darrell Jackson, 39, of Fredericksburg, would quickly advance towards the deputy in the lobby and begin a confrontation. The incident quickly escalated as Jackson assaulted the deputy. Hospital security and nursing staff rushed to assist the deputy. During the struggle, the deputy was able to activate the emergency button on his radio, which prompted an overwhelming response of law enforcement to the hospital. With the help of security and law enforcement with the Fredericksburg Police Department, Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office and Stafford Sheriff’s Office, Jackson was detained. The deputy sustained minor injuries during the attack.
Jackson was charged with assault and battery on law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of justice. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Thank you to the Fredericksburg Police Department, Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office and hospital staff for their quick response and assistance to the attack. We are praying for a speedy recovery for our deputy. |
