The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the fatal shooting which occurred in Stratford Place subdivision on February 28th. Thank you to everyone in the community who has provided information and video from the incident.
Our investigation indicates deputies responded to a reckless driver on an off-road motorcycle in the subdivision. An off-duty FBI Agent had confronted the motorcyclist and the motorcyclist fled the scene. The motorcyclist returned a short time later with family members and deputies conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, the family members refused to comply with deputies instructions and engaged in a physical altercation with both the deputies and the off duty FBI agent who remained in the area
A resident heard the commotion in front of his home and witnessed deputies attempting to get control of several suspects in the roadway. This courageous resident rushed from his yard into the scene in an attempt to help the deputies. During the altercation the off-duty FBI agent discharged his firearm, striking the resident in the chest. Tragically, despite the best life-saving efforts of deputies and members of Stafford County Fire and Rescue, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital later that night.
The deceased has been identified as Harold Chamberlain, Jr., 61, of Stafford. We continue to keep his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.
Again, this is an ongoing investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
