Once again, the attentiveness of Deputy X.D. Bates leads to an arrest after he observed a driver he was familiar with behind the wheel when he shouldn’t be.

On March 5th at approximately 4:41 p.m. Deputy Bates was patrolling the 100 block of Garrisonville Road. While doing so, he observed a Jeep. This Jeep caught his attention due to the fact the last night he pulled it over, the driver had a suspended license. While last time the driver was given a warning, that would not be the case this go around.

Deputy Bates conducted a traffic stop on the Jeep at the St William of York Church, located at 3130 Richmond Highway, and made contact with the driver. The driver was confirmed to still be driving with a suspended license. During the traffic stop, the passenger was observed nodding off, a common indication of narcotic uses. During their conversation, Deputy Bates would discover the passenger was wanted out of Prince William County. He was detained shortly after.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, Deputy Bates located suspected controlled substances. The driver admitted to the various drug related items being his. The driver was charged with driving while suspended, possession of controlled substances, and possession of paraphernalia. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,500 secured bond. The passenger was served on his outstanding warrant and held without bond.

Great work to Deputy Bates for once again being vigilant and taking drugs off the streets of Stafford.
