Not only is it difficult to evade Stafford deputies during a pursuit, but it is especially hard when turning onto a dead-end street. A 39-year-old Stafford man discovered this yesterday afternoon.
On March 3rd at approximately 2:07 p.m. Deputy G.P. McCaulley was patrolling in the area of Centreport Parkway and Mountain View Road. While doing so, he observed an SUV traveling 64 MPH in a 50 MPH. Deputy McCaulley would activate his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. Unfortunately, the driver would have other ideas that would lead to his downfall.
The SUV would begin quickly changing lanes and made a quick turn onto Mountain View Road. As Deputy McCaulley gave chase, the SUV would accelerate further. The SUV would continue onto Herdmont Drive then onto Bowman Court all at dangerous speeds. As the SUV crested the hill, the driver would discover Bowman Court is a dead-end street.
With nowhere to turn and one of the Traffic Safety Unit’s best on his tail, the driver exited his vehicle and quickly accepted defeat. He was detained without further incident. The driver, identified as Emanuel Byers, advised he ran because he “was not thinking right.” Thinking right or wrong, Byers was charged with eluding and speeding. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,500 secured bond. |
