Committing a traffic violation in front of the Traffic Safety Unit is not the best idea. Attempting to elude while in possession of more than just an expired registration is an even worse idea. A 30-year-old Stafford man discovered this during an afternoon trip.
On February 25th at approximately 3:25 p.m. Deputy G.P. McCaulley of the Traffic Safety Unit was enjoying the unseasonably warm weather while conducting speed enforcement on Warrenton Road. While in the 1700 block, where the speed limit is 55 MPH, Deputy McCaulley observed a motorcycle traveling Southbound at 88 MPH. Considering it wasn’t Doc Brown in a DeLorean, Deputy McCaulley activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist continued to McFly down Warrenton Road.
As Deputy McCaulley gave chase, the motorcyclist would weave in and out of traffic and conduct evasive maneuvers. At the Village Parkway intersection, Deputy McCaulley would cancel his pursuit due to dense traffic in the area; however, that does not mean the incident was over. A description of the suspect was broadcasted to nearby deputies who were quickly in the area. Down the street at the Stafford Lakes Parkway intersection was First Sergeant J.J. Kreider, who observed the suspect attempting to hide from law enforcement as he entered the Geico parking lot. His attempt would fail as First Sergeant Kreider, with the assistance of Deputy McCaulley, conducted a high risk stop. The suspect would comply with deputies’ commands and inform them he was armed.
The suspect, identified as Michael Rock, was detained without further incident. On his person, deputies recovered a firearm and two knives. During an inventory search of the motorcycle deputies also located a hatchet with colorful language on it and suspected controlled substances that Rock admitted was methamphetamine. To add to his list of charges, Rock had no motorcycle endorsement, no inspection of the motorcycle, and a registration that expired ten years ago.
Rock, not to be mistaken with Dwayne Johnson, was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of controlled substances, possession of a firearm while in possession of controlled substances, driving without a motorcycle endorsement, having an expired registration, and having no inspection. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,500 secured bond.
Great work to both First Sergeant Kreider and Deputy McCaulley for stopping a reckless rider. A booking photo for Rock is not currently available. |
