A wanted Fredericksburg man knew the jig was up when a First Sergeant observed him speeding Sunday night.
On February 23rd at approximately 7:10 p.m. First Sergeant A.I. Assur was patrolling the South end of the county. While on Butler Road, he observed a Jeep Cherokee traveling 54 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. First Sergeant Assur would attempt a traffic stop when he discovered the registered owner was wanted out of Stafford County for two felony offenses. Due to this, Deputy I.E. Baldi quickly responded to assist in the traffic stop.
The Jeep would pull over at Sunoco, located at 201 Emancipation Highway. The driver and wanted suspect, identified as Jeffery Roles, 33, would abruptly get out of the vehicle and lay on the ground in a surrender manner. At least he knew not to run from Stafford deputies.
Roles was detained and due to the nature of his previous charges, a K-9 was called to conduct an open-air sniff on the vehicle. When the K-9 alerted, probable cause was established to search the vehicle. Within the vehicle, deputies located a white crystalline substance. While Roles claimed the substance was drywall, deputies were confident the substance wasn’t for a home improvement project.
Roles was charged with possession of controlled substances and served on his outstanding warrants. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
