A Stafford man was jailed for his second DUI after a North Stafford pursuit last night.
On February 21st at 10:55 p.m. Deputy K.W. Suter observed a northbound SUV traveling at double the posted 45 mile per hour speed limit on Richmond Highway near Courage Lane. He activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect had other ideas and accelerated onto Telegraph Road, initiating a pursuit.
The pursuit continued at over 85 miles per hour, until the suspect stopped at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Grassland Court. Bad smells have lingered longer in a high school locker room than the suspect stayed on the scene. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot into Widewater Village. Communications Officers let Deputy Suter know the suspect vehicle was registered to an address on Olympic Drive, and the foot pursuit continued to that home in the 200 block. Unfortunately, the suspect was able to enter the garage and close the door before deputies could arrest him.
Unlike baseball where you can slide into home and be safe, the suspect was not going to get away with this in Stafford County. A perimeter was established and the suspect was identified as Justin Davis, 42, who resides in the home. Deputies continued to give commands to exit the home and warrants were obtained for Davis. Finally, nearly an hour after the pursuit started, Davis exited his home and was taken into custody.
Deputy Suter noticed signs of intoxication and Davis refused to take the breath test. A search warrant for blood was obtained and executed. Davis was ultimately charged with felony eluding, second offense DUI in five years, refusal, obstruction and reckless driving. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.
During the barricade, an 18-year-old intoxicated female came walking up to the residence. She was identified as a resident of the home and subsequently arrested for public intoxication and underage possession of alcohol. She was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
Excellent work by Deputy Suter to get this dangerous driver off the road! |
