A disturbance at the Red Roof Inn concluded with a 52-year-old Fredericksburg man spending the night under the roof of Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On February 8th at approximately 9:44 p.m. Deputy C.R. Newman responded to the Red Roof Inn, located at 386 Warrenton Road, for an assault. It was advised the victim was assaulted and her vehicle was stolen. Deputy Newman made contact with the victim to discover what occurred.

The victim, who had minor injuries, advised she was in a room with a known male. While he played his video games, a verbal disagreement broke out. When the victim attempted to deescalate the situation by leaving, the suspect instead escalated it by assaulting the victim. Before he fled the room, the suspect would steal the victim’s keys to her vehicle.

A be on the lookout for the victim’s vehicle was radioed to surrounding jurisdictions. This included Officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department, who happened to be behind the vehicle in question. When the vehicle re-entered Stafford County, deputies conducted a high-risk stop. The driver and suspect of the assault was detained without incident.

The suspect, Aubrey Rudd, was charged with assault and battery, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and driving while suspended. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Thank you to the Fredericksburg Police Department for your assistance. For anyone in need of victim services, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office partners with Empowerhouse to provide valuable resources.
