A 54-year-old Stafford man admitted he would “fail” field sobriety tests after a concerned citizen observed him chugging Twisted Tea behind the wheel.

On January 31st at approximately 1:07 p.m. Deputy A.E. Epps responded to the 300 block of White Oak Road for a drunk driver complaint. The caller advised a male behind the wheel of a Honda was in and out of consciousness while drinking from a bright “yellow can.” Deputies would quickly locate the driver and make contact with him.

The driver, identified as Wilver Bonilla, had extremely noticeable signs of intoxication including red, glassy eyes and the overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. In plain view, Deputy Epps observed the suspect “yellow can” in the cup holder and identified it as Twisted Tea. Also in plain view was an open box of Twisted Tea, as well as, empty cans and bottles. When the subject of field sobriety tests were brought up, Bonilla advised that “there’s no point” and he would “fail” due to his level of intoxication. Bonilla was discovered to have three previous DUI offenses and a revoked license due to a prior DUI offense.

Bonilla was charged with fourth offense driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .2, as well as, driving while revoked. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
