A hit and run was solved quicker, and more satisfyingly, than the Commander’s loss resulting in a margarita fan being taken to jail.
On January 25th at approximately 11:17 p.m. Deputy T.R.D. Berry responded to a hit and run. The victim advised he was at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Burns Corner when all the sudden, bang! He was rear-ended by a white Ford Ranger. The suspect driver would make contact with the victim and plead with him to “not call the cops.” When his pleas went unanswered, the suspect drove away from the crash.
Thanks to the victim’s description, Deputy Berry was able to locate the suspect vehicle as it conveniently passed the Sheriff’s Office on Courthouse Road. She would conduct a traffic stop on the Ford and make contact with the driver. The driver had signs of intoxication, admitted to consuming two margaritas, and a number of open containers were located within the vehicle. While this seems like a likely cause for the crash, the driver would advise otherwise. He advised he was distracted attempting to lean over to kiss his passenger.
This kiss would cost the driver more than a night out on Valentine’s Day for he was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, drinking while driving, as well as, hit and run. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober. Drive sober, and distraction free, or get pulled over |
