While Stafford roads are still a bit icy in spots, a crash last night was caused by something a bit more preventable.
On January 8th at approximately 8:28 p.m. Deputy K.F. Bierfeldt responded to Widewater Road for a single vehicle auto accident. It was advised a Toyota crashed in the front yard of a residence. While no injuries were reported, the caller advised the driver “might be drunk.”
Deputy Bierfeldt arrived to discover the vehicle, now disabled, and the suspect driver stumbling through the snow. The driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Deputy Bierfeldt attempted to learn what transpired up to this point; however, had a hard time due to the driver’s level of intoxication.
Eventually it was discovered the driver began consuming alcohol at noon. He would admit to consuming two vodka cranberries. Within the vehicle were empty mini-bottles of Fireball. It was also discovered the driver had no license and not only struck a communication box, but caused a large amount of damage to the owner’s land.
The driver was charged with destruction of property, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, drinking while driving, and driving without a license. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond. |
