A 45-year-old convicted felon was Ubered to jail by deputies after leaving behind some questionable and illegal items in an Uber.

On December 31st at approximately 7:39 p.m. Deputy W.E. Trainor responded to a residence in North Stafford regarding found property. The caller, an Uber driver, advised his latest passenger left a backpack inside his vehicle. When the caller opened the bag in hopes to find identifying information on the passenger so he could return the bag, he located a firearm.

When Deputy Trainor arrived on scene and took possession of the firearm, he discovered it to be stolen. The latest passenger, and now suspect, was identified as Eugene Perry III, of Stafford, who is a convicted felon. It was also discovered Perry was attempting to meet an Uber on Town Center Boulevard. He would instead have a different ride with a different destination.

Deputies arrived in the area and located Perry. He was detained without incident. A search warrant was obtained for the backpack where deputies located not only identifying information for Perry, but numerous and different suspected controlled substances. This rideshare would cost him more than just a pretty penny.

Perry was charged with possession of a firearm while in possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, firearm possession by a convicted felon, and carrying a concealed weapon. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. This is an ongoing investigation.
