Two wanted individuals and controlled substances were taken off the street yesterday due to a traffic stop and K-9 Mija.

On October 29th at approximately 12:37 p.m. Deputy R.A. Weatherholtz was in the area of Plantation Drive when he observed a Cadillac with improper registration. He would conduct a traffic stop on Lichfield Boulevard and make contact with the three occupants. Before doing so, Deputy Weatherholtz would observe the rear passenger making movements consistent with hiding something.

While conversing with the driver, identified as Dane Wisdom, 40, of Stafford, Deputy Weatherholtz would recognize the rear passenger from prior incidents. The rear passenger was Deklyn Atkins, 21, of Ruther Glen. Atkins was wanted out of Caroline County for a court violation. When additional deputies arrived, she was taken into custody without incident. The front passenger was identified as Jasmine Calhoun, 25, of King George. Calhoun was wanted out of the city of Fredericksburg for grand larceny and was also taken into custody without incident.

Deputy F.A. Martinez responded to the traffic stop with his K-9 partner, Mija, who is trained in detecting narcotics. Mija would positively alert on the vehicle, giving deputies probable cause to search it. During the search, a box of Girl Scout cookies was located where Atkins was sitting; however, the box had something more addictive than Thin Mints. Within Wisdom’s backpack were numerous narcotic items. Additional suspected controlled substances were located in the center console and within Wisdom’s sock. No items of evidentiary value were located in Calhoun’s area.

Wisdom was charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Atkins was charged with possession of controlled substances, served on her outstanding warrant and was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Calhoun was served on her outstanding warrant and was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.

Great work to deputies for not only locating wanted individuals, but seizing dangerous narcotics.
