Walking away from a traffic stop does not get you out of trouble. A 41-year-old Stafford man discovered this at a local 7-Eleven last night.

On October 28th at approximately 10:13 p.m. Deputy K.W. Suter was in the area of Richmond Highway and Kings Crest Drive conducting speed enforcement. While doing so, he would observe a Ford traveling nearly double the speed limit. Deputy Suter would activate his emergency equipment and conduct a traffic stop.

The Ford would pull into the 7-Eleven parking lot and, without being prompted, the driver would exit the vehicle and head towards the business. The driver’s Slurpee needed to wait, for they were in the middle of a traffic stop. Deputy Suter advised the driver to stop, but the driver would not comply. Due to him not complying, Deputy Suter would attempt to detain him. The driver would resist and continued to disobey commands. After some back and forth, the driver was eventually detained with the assistance of additional deputies.

The driver had signs of intoxication, an open container of tequila, and a Sprite bottle definitely not filled with Sprite. The driver was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, drinking while driving, and obstruction of justice. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
