A celebration could have had a different ending after a juvenile decided to drive under the influence Saturday night.

On October 26th at approximately 10:05 p.m. Deputy S.C. Steinway was in the area of Brooke Road and Caroway Drive. While there, he observed a vehicle where a vehicle should not be. A Kia was stuck in a ditch. Deputy Steinway ensured the driver was alright as Deputy C.D. Quebedeaux responded to assist.

The juvenile driver advised he was coming from a birthday party when he crashed because his “headlights are terrible.” Deputies figured there could be another reason due to the driver having the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The driver would admit to consuming Twisted Tea while at the party and was found in possession of a THC vape. When Deputy Quebedeaux asked why he did not have a designated driver, the juvenile advised “what’s that?” Due to this experience, he most likely won’t forget what a designated driver is. Criminal complaints for driving under the influence, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, underage possession of THC and alcoholic beverages, as well as, reckless driving were submitted.

With Halloween quickly approaching we encourage everyone who plans on consuming alcohol to plan ahead. Have a designated driver or order a ride using a rideshare app. We will have additional patrols around the holiday to ensure the safety of all drivers. Remember, drive sober or get pulled over.
