“Why is the rum always gone?” An age-old question that was answered yesterday during a traffic stop in South Stafford.

On October 1st at approximately 10:11 p.m. First Sergeant N. Zotos and Deputy S.A. Fulford responded to Wawa, located at 275 Butler Road, for a drunk driver complaint. The caller advised the driver of a Chevy Cruze, with no front license plate, was fighting over a bottle of alcohol with his passenger. The caller would further advise after witnessing the driver consume alcohol, he would chase it with the light and refreshing taste of a Dr. Pepper. As deputies set sail to the Wawa, the driver drove off, only to change his mind and return to the Wawa parking lot where deputies conducted a traffic stop.

The 26-year-old driver had rather unique indications, but not of a curse from the Black Pearl. He had slurred speech and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. While Captain Jack Sparrow was not located within the vehicle, a different Captain was, Captain Morgan. Two nearly drained bottles of rum were located within the vehicle, one of which was under the driver’s seat.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, drinking while driving, refusal, and improper license plate display. Since Davy Jones Locker was not available, he was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.
