Two deputies were assaulted by a 23-year-old Stafford man last night resulting in felony charges.
On August 28th at approximately 8:55 p.m. a deputy was at Mary Washington Hospital, located at 1001 Sam Perry Boulevard, for an unrelated matter when he heard a male screaming homicidal statements. The deputy went to investigate when he observed Philip Erikson throw a metal tray towards a nurse.
Due to the active attempted assault, the deputy attempted to detain Erikson. Erikson would resist and assault the deputy. After a brief struggle, Erikson was detained. With the help of a Stafford Sergeant and a Fredericksburg Police Officer, Erikson was escorted to a patrol vehicle. During that time, Erikson would also assault the Sergeant on scene.
Erikson was charged with two counts of assault and battery on law enforcement, disorderly conduct, assault and battery, as well as, destruction of property. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Neither deputy was seriously injuries during the altercation. |
