A Triangle woman found herself in the custody of the Rappahannock Regional Jail after illogically choosing Stafford County to commit fraud.
On July 14th at 8:30 p.m. deputies responded to the Target on S. Gateway Drive for a suspect attempting to commit return fraud. Staff at the store recognized the suspect from an incident on June 2nd of this year and immediately notified law enforcement.
The suspect left the store before deputies could arrive, but staff provided a description of the suspect and her black BMW SUV. First Sergeant Assur (I know it seems like he is everywhere) was able to locate and stop the BMW on I-95 near the 147 North mile-marker. Deputy E.L. Shelton responded to assist on the traffic stop while Deputy C.R. Newman began gathering evidence at the Target.
When the dust settled, deputies had recovered 13 Canon Cameras valued at $8,449 and 2 VR Systems valued at $999 from the BMW. The driver was identified as Chloee Davis, 32. She was already wanted by Virginia Beach Police Department for failure to appear. She added the charges of attempted false pretenses, possession of stolen property, possession with intent to distribute stolen property and driving suspended. Additionally, deputies connected Davis to the June 2nd incident and obtained warrants for shoplifting and false pretenses. Amazingly, Davis received a $5,000 bond.
A 32-year-old female passenger from Hampton was found to be wanted in Newport News for failure to appear. The passenger was placed in jail on a $2,000 bond.
Excellent teamwork by the deputies and store staff to end this crime spree. |
