Early Monday morning, deputies located a stolen vehicle, while K-9 Gunner won a game of hide-and-seek.

On June 24th at approximately 1:07 a.m. Deputy K.F. Bierfeldt was on Garrisonville Road in the area of Dunn Drive when she observed a possible stolen vehicle. Deputy Bierfeldt confirmed the vehicle was stolen out of Maryland and conducted a traffic stop in Garrison Woods. Before contact could be made, the passenger quickly got out and began to flee.

Deputy Bierfeldt continued her high-risk traffic stop with the driver while informing nearby units of the fleeing passenger. Nearby units set up a perimeter and awaited Deputy S.T. Myers to arrive with his K-9 partner, Gunner, to conduct a track. The track was successful and K-9 Gunner located the passenger hiding in the woods nearby. The passenger was identified as Justin Hunter, 32, of Stafford. Hunter originally denied being the passenger; however, oddly enough, requested deputies to check to see if his phone was still in the vehicle. He was also discovered to be wanted out of Stafford County for a capias offense.

Deputy Bierfeldt made contact with the driver, who was identified as Devonte Griffin, 28, of Maryland. Griffin advised it was “impossible” for the vehicle to be stolen since it was his. That was discovered to be untrue. It was also discovered he has a revoked license. Within the vehicle, deputies located multiple open containers of alcohol.

Hunter was charged with eluding, obstruction of justice, as well as, served on his outstanding charge. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Griffin was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, drinking while driving, and driving while revoked. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond.
