An afternoon pursuit led to a manhunt in Aquia Harbour late last night.
On June 9th, at approximately 5:18 p.m., Deputy C.D. Quebedeaux responded to Briar Patch Park for an officer in need of assistance. An Aquia Harbour officer advised he was attempting to pull over a vehicle that “just took off.” That officer advised the driver was a Hispanic man wearing a black shirt currently driving a black Honda.
Deputy Quebedeaux would locate the Honda on Aquia Drive and attempt a traffic stop. This quickly escalated to a pursuit when the driver refused to pull over. The suspect driver would cross into oncoming traffic numerous times and reach speeds above 70 MPH. The suspect vehicle would enter Beacon Cove, which was a dead end. Deputy Quebedeaux attempted to conduct a high-risk traffic stop when the suspect driver backed into Deputy Quebedeaux’s cruiser. The suspect driver would then drive into a resident’s backyard and bail out on foot. No deputies or citizens were injured during the pursuit.
A perimeter was established, as well as, K-9 and the drone team were called out to assist. Deputy S.T Myers was on a K-9 track with his K-9 partner, Gunner, when Gunner discovered an item of interest. A bag with 22 sets of keys were discovered and is believed to have belonged to the suspect. Unfortunately, after an extensive search the suspect was not located.
The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information, please contact the Sheriff’s Office. |
