A runaway from another jurisdiction attempted to flee from First Sergeant A.I. Assur causing a pursuit that ended in Fredericksburg.
On May 31st at approximately 11:39 p.m. First Sergeant Assur was on Kings Highway near Sherwood Forest Farm Lane. While there, he observed a Toyota RAV4 traveling 91 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. First Sergeant Assur activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop; however, the vehicle would accelerate and initiate a pursuit.
As the suspect driver continued to gain speed, she would turn off her headlights and abruptly took the ramp to enter Fredericksburg, nearly losing control in the process. Due to the pure recklessness of the driver and the potential this was a DUI, First Sergeant continued the pursuit as law enforcement from both Fredericksburg and the Virginia State Police were notified. As the pursuit continued on Kings Highway, the suspect driver would use the shoulder to pass vehicles, pass through a red light, and nearly strike a motorist. At the intersection of Woodlyn Drive, the driver would strike another vehicle. The suspect vehicle would travel another 75 yards before becoming disabled and ending the pursuit.
While the vehicle was undrivable at this point, that did not stop the suspect driver from attempting to accelerate away. After accepting defeat, the driver surrendered to First Sergeant Assur. The 16-year-old female was identified and First Sergeant Assur discovered officers with Chesterfield Police were currently in the process of entering her as a runaway.
The runaway who attempted to run away from First Sergeant Assur received criminal complaints for felony eluding and reckless driving. Virginia State Police handled the hit and run and will be issuing their own charges. Juvenile Intake was contacted and decided to detain her. She was held at the Juvenile Detention Center. |
