You read that right. A 68-year-old Stafford man with seven previous DUI charges was discovered drunk behind the wheel again, this time with an unrestrained child.
On May 28th at approximately 8:57 p.m. Deputy S.A. Edwards responded to the area of Warrenton Road and Poplar Road for an auto accident. It was advised a Fauquier County Ambulance and a Chevy Tahoe made contact with each other at the intersection. Luckily, EMS staff was quickly on scene.
The Tahoe driver, Homer Maxey, would have bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and admitted to consuming two twelve-ounce beers prior to driving. A quick look at Maxey’s background uncovered he had seven previous DUI charges and was currently unlicensed and revoked due to those DUI charges. Within the vehicle Deputy Edwards located four empty beer cans. The only other person present in the Tahoe was a nine-year-old, who was sitting in the back seat without a seatbelt. The child was uninjured during the crash and was turned over to a responsible family member.
Maxey was charged with driving under the influence third offense within ten years with a child present, driving after forfeiture of his license, driving while revoked with endangerment, driving with an unrestrained child in the vehicle, and child endangerment. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond, which hopefully, prevented a ninth offense from occurring. |
