A young Stafford driver’s “rough day” got a bit rougher due to his own actions attempting to flee from law enforcement.
On April 30th at approximately 9:09 p.m. Deputy M.A. Pearce was in the area of Warrenton Road and Plantation Drive when he observed a Mercedes traveling at speeds above 100 MPH. Considering the extremely reckless nature, Deputy Pearce attempted to pull over the driver. The driver would not comply and continued his intense speed onto Truslow Road. Deputy Pearce would lose sight of the vehicle and the pursuit would be called off. That being said, there were now multiple deputies in the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle. Later on, Deputy V.R. Weadon would respond to Lynchester Drive for an unoccupied suspicious vehicle call. When she arrived, she discovered the vehicle in question matched the one from the pursuit, even down to the broken rear passenger light. During an inventory search of the vehicle, documents for Timothy Garrett, 19, were located, leading deputies to believe he was the driver.
With the vehicle towed and a suspect description obtained, Deputy I.E. Baldi would continue her efforts to locate the driver. While on Village Parkway, Deputy Baldi would observe Garrett, now muddy from trekking through the woods. He would produce a false identity that clearly did not work. With the jig being up, Garrett admitted that running from the cops was “wrong” but he had a “rough day.” No matter the reason, driving at speeds that could kill someone is unacceptable. He was also discovered to be in possession of vapes.
Garret was charged with felony eluding, providing a false identity, and underage possession of tobacco. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
