Stafford Detectives, with the assistance of the Prince William County Police Department, identified and caught a Fairfax man involved in multiple recent armed robberies.

On February 6th at approximately 10:45 a.m. deputies responded to Carter Bank and Trust, located at 55 Worth Avenue, for a business alarm. The nature of the call would drastically change when deputies discovered the bank was robbed. The suspect involved demanded cash and indicated he had a firearm before fleeing the scene on foot. Two nearby schools were placed on a partial lockdown as K-9 and drone searches commenced. While the suspect was not located that day, detectives with our Major Crimes Unit were quickly on scene and were diligently collecting evidence.

On April 10th at approximately 3:59 p.m. deputies responded to United Bank, located at 289 Garrisonville Road, for another business alarm. Mere moments later, deputies were on scene and discovered it was another bank robbery. The same suspect involved demanded cash and displayed a firearm before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. Once again, an extensive search was commenced, but the suspect was not located that day. Again, detectives with the Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, including Detective N.D. Ridings.

Since March, Detective Ridings has been working with the Prince William County Police Department, for it was discovered they had three armed robberies that were incredibly similar. Detectives combed through numerous surveillance cameras until a suspect Prius was identified. With that, detectives discovered a person of interest and began conducting surveillance on the vehicle.

On April 26th, detectives with both Stafford and Prince William located the vehicle in the parking lot of an office complex in Prince William. Detective Ridings was able to confirm the suspect in the vehicle was the suspect they were looking for. He was quickly placed into custody.

The suspect was identified as Bobby Winstead III, 34. He was charged with two counts of bank robbery, two counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony, and two counts of using a mask with the intent to conceal his identity on top of his Prince William charges. He is currently being held without bond in Prince William County Jail.

Amazing work to our detectives for unmasking and solving multiple armed robberies. Thank you to the Prince William County Police Department for their assistance.
