A 26-year-old Woodbridge man who nearly caused a crash in front of a deputy ended his ride by crashing onto a jail mattress.
On April 27th at approximately 2:22 a.m. First Sergeant M.R. Flick was traveling on Northbound Richmond Highway in the area of Corporate Drive. While doing so there was a Toyota Rav4 in front of him. This Rav4 caught First Sergeant Flicks attention as it began drifting out of its lane and into another. The vehicle currently in that lane did not want to test the laws of physics where two objects cannot occupy the same space and had to make evasive maneuvers. After witnessing the obvious traffic lane violation, and it being peak time for DUI drivers to be on the road, First Sergeant Flick turned on his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.
Instead of pulling safety over to the right like most drivers would do, this driver would continue on and began to drift into the Southbound lanes. Eventually the driver would stop, on the Southbound shoulder facing Northbound as Deputy W.E. Trainor responded to assist. Not shockingly, the driver had clear signs of intoxication. The driver admitted to not only having no license, but that he consumed roughly nine beers before driving.
The driver was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, driving without a license, reckless driving, and the traffic lane violation. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
