30 minutes after posting an Attempt to Identify flyer, the suspect was spotted and detained thanks to the watchful eyes of Stafford County residents.
On April 22nd at approximately 2:30 p.m. Deputy A.M. Pitts responded to Home Depot, located at 305 Worth Avenue, for a larceny. It was discovered a male suspect stole over $4,400 worth of items before fleeing in a silver Toyota. As a result, an Attempt to Identify flyer was created and released on April 24th at 10:40 a.m.
30 minutes later, First Sergeant J.A. Mangan and Deputy B.W. Gildea responded to that same Home Depot for a suspicious person call. The caller advised that same suspect was back inside the store. Deputies were able to locate the suspect, confirm he was the same from the previous larceny, and detained him without incident. The suspect was identified as Eliezer Diaz Hernandez, 41, of Alexandria. He was charged with grand larceny and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $10,000 secured bond.
Shortly after dropping Hernandez off at the jail, Home Depot staff requested Deputy Gildea to respond back to the business. They discovered another previously unsolved larceny that occurred on April 8th was also committed by Hernandez. During that incident, Hernandez would steel over $1,600 worth of items while wearing the exact clothes he was arrested in. Additional charges of shoplifting and possession of stolen property with intent to sell have been obtained, but not yet served. |
