A 40-year-old Fredericksburg man was arrested for DUI after multiple witnesses observed him nearly striking children during his reckless driving spree.
On April 20th at approximately 5:17 p.m. Deputy K.W. Suter responded to the Motel 6, located at 401 Warrenton Road, for a reckless driver. Multiple callers advised there was a white Chevy Tahoe doing doughnuts in the parking lot. Deputy Suter arrived at the business and made contact with three witnesses who were able to provide additional information.
It was discovered as the driver was doing doughnuts, he would consume alcohol, had an unrestrained child in the passenger seat, and nearly struck two kids as they rode their bikes. All three witnesses described the same suspect vehicle and suspect male. With this information, Deputy Suter made contact with the suspect. The suspect, identified as Richard Martin, had extremely glossy eyes and the overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The child reported to be inside Martin’s vehicle was turned over to her mother. Martin was arrested and Deputy A. De Hoyos, a certified phlebotomist, took a blood sample.
Martin was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, drinking while driving, reckless driving in a parking lot, driving under the influence with a minor within the vehicle, obstruction of justice, and three counts of child endangerment. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond. |
