A 30-year-old Stafford woman received a court date while on her way to court yesterday morning.
On April 9th at approximately 7:58 a.m. Sergeant J.T. Harrod was at the Richmond Highway and Courthouse Road intersection. While there, he observed a pickup truck trying to beat the morning rush by traveling 61 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Sergeant Harrod initiated his emergency equipment as the driver turned onto Courthouse Road. The driver would stop at 1259 Courthouse Road, just one turn away from the Stafford County Courthouse.
Before making contact with the driver, Sergeant Harrod observed the driver had driven over a curb before stopping, there was no front license plate on the vehicle, and no inspection sticker. The driver had noticeable signs of intoxication, including pinpoint pupils, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. The driver, who provided a false name, advised she was on her way to General District Court. She would be showing up to court a different day, for after conducting field sobriety tests, Sergeant Harrod attempted to take her into custody. The driver would resist by refusing commands, flail around, and scream. She was eventually taken into custody and inside the vehicle Sergeant Harrod would locate an empty bottle of Seagram’s and a mostly consumed bottle of Jägermeister.
The driver was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, obstruction of justice, providing a false identity to law enforcement, failure to attach a front license plate, having expired registration, and failure to inspect a vehicle. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond. |
