One wanted, yet cooperative, Stafford man changed his mind last second after facing the consequences of his actions.
On April 4th at approximately 12:21 p.m. Deputy A.W. Sypolt responded to the Motel 6, located at 401 Warrenton Road, for a disturbance. Staff advised a guest was refusing to leave his room despite check out being hours ago. Hoping to end this hotel hiccup, Deputy Sypolt made contact with that guest. The guest was identified as Gunther Raimund, 24, who was wanted out of Stafford County for a failure to appear charge.
Raimund was informed of his wanted status and was placed into handcuffs without incident. During a search incident to arrest, suspected controlled substances were located on his person. During his trip to Rappahannock Regional Jail, Raimund confessed there were additional controlled substances in the room he was staying at and offered to tell Deputy Sypolt exactly where he hid them. With this new information, Deputy Sypolt turned back to the Motel 6 and Raimund did just as he stated he would. Additional suspected controlled substances were located and seized. With that out of the way, the trip back to jail could resume.
Deputy Sypolt was escorting Raimund to the magistrate when Raimund had second thoughts. Out of nowhere, he did a full 180 and ran the opposite direction in a full sprint. Deputy Sypolt gave chase and was just about to regain control of him when Raimund tripped on his own shoes, quickly ending his failed fleeing attempt. Raimund advised he ran because it would “keep him out of jail for a little longer.” While that was true, those five extra seconds of freedom earned him another charge.
Raimund was charged with possession of controlled substances, obstruction of justice, and served on his outstanding warrant. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
