An intoxicated driver and wanted passenger were jailed all thanks to a vehicle malfunction late last night.

On April 3rd at approximately 10:42 p.m. Deputy K.R. Sprinkles and Deputy C.C. Lee responded to the intersection of Warrenton Road and Olde Forge Drive for a disabled vehicle in the road. When deputies made contact with the driver, she had signs of being under the influence and admitted to taking controlled substances. While Deputy Sprinkles conducted field sobriety tests, Deputy Lee conversed with the passenger.

The passenger, later identified as Kenneth Outlaw Jr., was not singing Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken,” for he gave a false name. That was quickly discovered by other deputies due to them having numerous prior interactions with him. Outlaw was discovered to be an outlaw, for he was wanted out of Spotsylvania for a capias. During a search incident to arrest, Deputy Lee located suspected controlled substances that Outlaw advised “I forgot I had that.” While he may have forgotten, deputies would not forget to charge him.

The female driver was charged with driving under the influence. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond. Outlaw was charged with possession of controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute, falsely identifying himself to law enforcement, and served on his outstanding warrant. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
