A simple hit and run resulted in two family members being charged in two different reports.
On April 1st, Deputy B.E. Vaughn responded to Garrisonville Road for a hit and run. Multiple callers advised a Chevy Cruze was driving recklessly in the area and eventually struck another vehicle. The victim advised while traveling in the area, the suspect vehicle “came out of nowhere” and struck him. While he would pull over at a nearby business, the suspect vehicle would continue on. Luckily, a witness was able to capture the license plate of the suspect vehicle. On April 1st the suspect vehicle could not be located, but remember, if at first you don’t succeed, try again.
On April 2nd at approximately 6:15 p.m. Deputy Vaughn once again responded to the registered owner’s residence on Paradise Court. There he made contact with the female suspect and her wife within the suspect vehicle. While at first the suspect denied driving, after a bit of a conversation, she would finally reveal the truth. She advised due to her passenger window being broken and covered with a trash bag she did not see the victim’s vehicle and struck him. It was also discovered her driver’s license was suspended. During his investigation, Deputy Vaughn noticed suspected controlled substances where the wife was sitting. While she would attempt to hide the evidence, that would not go unnoticed to Deputy Vaughn. She, just like her partner, was detained at that point.
While being booked at Rappahannock Regional Jail, jail staff discovered the suspect of the drug charge was still in possession of suspected controlled substances. Due to this discovery, a strip search was also conducted where even more suspected controlled substances were located. She was charged with possession of controlled substances, and felony by prisoner. She was held without bond. The original suspect was charged with hit and run, as well as, driving while suspended. She was released by the magistrate on personal recognizance. |
