A combative DUI driver in a rush to leave the scene of an accident forgot both her vehicle and driver’s license making it easy for deputies to solve this case.
On March 19th at approximately 4:41 a.m. Deputy N.J. Amato and Deputy S.A. Fulford responded to Plumosa Drive for a hit and run. A parked Honda had its rear smashed. Unlike most hit and runs, deputies didn’t have to look far for the suspect vehicle considering the driver left it there. Within the vehicle deputies located not only an open White Claw, but the driver’s license of the registered owner’s daughter.
Deputy Amato responded just down the street to the registered owner’s address where he made contact with the suspect driver. The 30-year-old female advised while driving an animal ran out in front of her causing this incident, but instead of staying on scene of the accident, she left. Deputy Amato would later review video of the crash captured by a neighbor and no such animal was observed.
The suspect had clear signs of intoxication, including the heavy odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. When the topic of field sobriety tests was brought up, the suspect began to not comply. Despite family members attempting to reason with her, the suspect would try to flee into her room to avoid being arrested. This would be futile.
During her trip to Rappahannock Regional Jail the suspect would be highly combative and uncooperative by resisting and screaming multiple obscenities towards deputies. Again, that did not stop her from being charged. She was charged with driving under the influence, hit and run, drinking while driving, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, expired inspection, and refusal. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond. |
