A run of the mill traffic stop had a different ending after an observant Sergeant noticed several unusual signs early Monday morning.

On March 18th at approximately 1:43 a.m. Sergeant J.D. Hurt was traveling on Warrenton Road when he observed a vehicle, who’s registered owner had a suspended license. Sergeant Hurt attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 260 block of Warrenton Road like he has done many times before. This time however, Sergeant Hurt observed the driver making several unusual movements in the area of the center console. Seeing the potential danger, Sergeant Hurt requested additional units as a precaution.

Sergeant Hurt made contact with the 19-year-old driver, and requested he exit the vehicle for a security sweep. While the driver complied, he requested to “just go home.” Sergeant Hurt would quickly discover why he wanted to leave. Within the center console, Sergeant Hurt located a loaded firearm that was discovered to be stolen out of a neighboring jurisdiction.

The driver was charged with driving while suspended, and carrying a concealed weapon. Charges regarding possession of a stolen firearm are pending and the firearm is being held as evidence. The driver was released by the magistrate on personal recognizance.
