While a 29-year-old repeat DUI man knew he “drank too much” it didn’t stop him from getting behind the wheel and causing an accident.
On March 1st at approximately 4:33 p.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci and Deputy K.F. Bierfeldt responded to the 400 block of Warrenton Road for a reckless driver complaint. The caller advised a vehicle was driving recklessly, swerving, and even rear ended another vehicle before fleeing from the crash. Luckily, no injuries were sustained due to the hit and run.
Sergeant Demirci was in the area and observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the crash just after it occurred. He conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on the Northbound I-95 entrance ramp as Deputy Bierfeldt responded to assist. The driver, identified as Shawn Williams Jr., had clear signs of intoxication to the point he was unable to remove his license from his wallet and needed deputies’ help to do so. When inquiring minds wanted to know how much alcohol he consumed, Williams advised he “drank too much.”
Within the vehicle, deputies located two open bottles of alcohol. They also discovered Williams did not possess a valid driver’s license. He was charged with driving under the influence second offense in five years with a blood alcohol content above .2, hit and run, drinking while driving, and driving without a license. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
