A 20-year-old driver and 19-year-old passenger are lucky to be alive after a serious crash that took place Saturday morning.
On February 24th at approximately 5:30 a.m. Deputy B.W. Gildea responded to the area of Richmond Highway and Coachman Circle for an auto accident with entrapment. The caller advised he observed a damaged Prius in the middle of the roadway with two unresponsive males inside. The caller was able to pull the driver from the crash, but the passenger was stuck.
With the help of Fire and Rescue, the passenger was safely removed from the vehicle and both were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries. It was discovered the vehicle was traveling Northbound on Richmond Highway when it swerved off the roadway at the Coachman Circle intersection. The vehicle would continue until it hit a storm drain before rolling over back onto the roadway. Within the vehicle Deputy Gildea located a partially consumed bottle of alcohol, as well as, partially burned marijuana. Later, Deputy Gildea would converse with the driver and learned these substances may have played a major role in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation as deputies await medical records and toxicology reports. Driving under the influence is a serious crime that can not only hurt you, but others around you. Please drive sober. |
