Most people get intoxicated at a bar or at home with friends. One 44-year-old Stafford man decided to try something new and got intoxicated in the paint aisle before assaulting a deputy.
On February 20th at approximately 6:57 p.m. deputies responded to Lowe’s, located at 1330 Stafford Market Place, for a disturbance. The caller advised a male who was talking “gibberish” was causing a scene by pushing items around and stumbling so badly he nearly fell over. When deputies arrived, it didn’t take them long to locate the gibberish speaker perusing the paints.
Due to his obvious intoxicated state, it was fair to assume he wasn’t looking to repaint his bathroom. When deputies informed him it was time to go, he responded with “nah.” “Nah” was not the correct answer and deputies attempted to detain him. The suspect resisted, punched a deputy, and began to run away. Due to his slow pace, deputies were able to gain control of him and detain him despite his protesting.
The suspect, William Cropp, was charged with assault and battery on law enforcement, obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
