U-turn to Jail

A simple traffic infraction led to an extended stay in jail this week for a Florida woman.

On February 13th at 11:14 p.m. Deputy X.D. Bates stopped a Toyota Rav4 for an illegal U-turn at Garrisonville Road and Richmond Highway. The driver was identified as Joahnna Contreras, 34, of Lauderhill, Florida. Contreras was immediately irate and the situation did not improve as deputies learned she lacked a driver’s license.

Deputy Bates wrote summonses for the offenses and returned to the suspect vehicle to obtain Contreras’ signature. Contreras became increasingly dismayed when she learned the vehicle would need to be towed. She obviously disagreed with the towing option as she sped from the traffic stop like the start of the Daytona 500, and initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit was short-lived as Contreras pulled to the shoulder just past the I-95 on-ramp. She was taken into custody while continuing to unleash a torrent of insults and obscenities toward the deputies.

Instead of a couple releasable summonses, Contreras was arrested for obstruction, eluding, no license and illegal U-turn. She was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until able to participate in a bond hearing.
