Shredded personal documents are great to protect your identity, shredded cheese is perfect for tacos, and shredded tires on a suspect vehicle are extraordinary to end a police pursuit!

On Thursday January 25th at 12:30 a.m. Sergeant J.D. Hurt stopped a red Dodge Durango on South Gateway Drive for reckless driving and expired inspection. Deputy S.A. Hensley responded to assist and the driver was identified as Jordan Childs, 21, of Stafford.

The deputies were checking the driver’s license status when suddenly the Dodge brake lights illuminated and Childs shifted the Dodge into gear. He accelerated from the traffic stop onto northbound Warrenton Road and initiated a pursuit. Speeds increased to 111 mph as Childs ill-conceived plan to escape justice played out.

The pursuit continued onto Poplar Road, but Childs lackluster driving ability caused the Dodge to strike the embankment and damaged the left front tire. He extended the pursuit onto Truslow Road, but the tire had other ideas and completely disintegrated. Lacking a pit crew to change the tire, Childs pulled to the shoulder in the 1500 block of Poplar Road and surrendered.

A search of the vehicle revealed suspected controlled substances and loose rounds of 9 mm ammunition. Deputy Hensley canvassed the pursuit route and discovered a discarded 9 mm Taurus handgun in the roadway of the 1600 block of Truslow Road. As you may have guessed, the ammunition in the Taurus matched the ammunition in the Dodge.

Childs was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, failing to obey a traffic light, obstruction, littering and concealed weapon. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are possible.
