An Ohio man who thought he could outrun the police in North Stafford last night ended up just as disappointed as Dallas Cowboys fans this morning.
On January 14th at 10:32 p.m. Deputy J.W. Ahern attempted to stop a Toyota Sequoia on westbound Garrisonville Road near Eustace Road for not having any rear lights. Instead of stopping for the minor traffic violation, the driver conducted a U-turn and accelerated eastbound on Garrisonville Road, initiating a pursuit.
The suspect sped up to 85 mph before turning left onto Center Street and then right onto Barrett Heights Road. Deputy Ahern provided updates to other deputies in the area as the suspect sped up to nearly 80 mph and turned right onto Onville Road toward Garrisonville Road.
Deputy Ahern attempted intentional vehicle contact as the suspect made a U-turn at Worth Avenue. The suspect was able to continue, but went off-road into the yard of a residence.
After traversing the lawns of several residences, the suspect reached the fence of Garrison Woods and fled on foot. He squeezed through a hole in the fence as additional deputies descended on the area.
Deputy T.G. Croson arrived first and saw the suspect bounding through the apartment complex. Despite ordering the suspect to stop, he continued his ill-conceived escape attempt.
As the foot pursuit reached the 300 block of Garrison Woods, Deputy Croson was able to do something the Dallas Cowboys defense struggled with all night, perform a tackle.
The suspect was quickly detained and identified as Andre Wooding of Akron, Ohio. He was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, and no driver’s license. Wooding was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Great teamwork by the deputies to get this suspect into custody and end this pursuit faster than the Dallas Cowboys playoff run. Want to join the team of professionals protecting Stafford County?
