A 39-year-old North Carolina man caused a four-vehicle auto accident after making the decision to drink and drive.

On December 14th at approximately 7:10 p.m. Deputy A.M. Pitts and Deputy W.E. Trainor responded to the 1000 block of Washington Drive, just prior to the Aquia Harbour security gates, for an auto accident. Four vehicles were involved and fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

Deputy Trainor investigated the accident and determined the Jeep Liberty was traveling out of Aquia Harbour towards Richmond Highway. As it was doing so, it crossed the center lane and collided with the Hyundai. The two Dodge vehicles behind the Hyundai did not have enough time to react, and collided as well.

Deputy Pitts made contact with the at fault driver and noticed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, as well as other signs of intoxication. The driver admitted to consuming “not much” alcohol, but also thought it was early Saturday morning. He would eventually admit to consuming a bottle of wine. Within his vehicle was an open and mostly consumed bottle of wine.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, as well as, drinking while driving. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
