A hit and run incident Sunday evening had a different ending after a juvenile was found in possession of a rifle.

On December 10th at approximately 4:31 p.m. Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen, Deputy C.C. Crossett, and Deputy B.J. Reed responded to AutoZone, located at 312 Worth Avenue, for an auto accident. The caller advised after observing a collision, two individuals exited one of the vehicles and were harassing the driver of the other vehicle. The two individuals then fled in their vehicle prior to deputies arrival.

Deputy Crossett arrived on scene and made contact with the victim as Sergeant Jacobeen and Deputy Reed began searching the area for the suspect vehicle. The victim advised after the collision, the two suspects aggressively approached him, and the passenger threatened him. The two quickly fled the scene of the accident towards Onville Road.

Sergeant Jacobeen was able to locate a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle on Sundance Road, complete with recent front-end damage. Sergeant Jacobeen made contact with both the juvenile driver and juvenile passenger. The driver confirmed he was involved in the accident and only had a learner’s permit. While conversing with the driver, Sergeant Jacobeen observed both tobacco and marijuana in his possession. Later into their conversation, Sergeant Jacobeen learned there was a rifle in the vehicle.

Located within the vehicle was an AR-15 rifle along with a loaded magazine. Criminal complaints for underage possession of a firearm, hit and run, underage possession of marijuana, underage possession of tobacco, and driving without a license were filed for the driver. Criminal complaints for disorderly conduct and simple assault were filed for the passenger. The driver was detained at the Juvenile Detention Center, while the passenger was released to his mother, who lectured him about his poor choices.
