A wanted Falls Church man was informed of the law during a traffic stop and during his short ride to Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On October 26th at approximately 6:52 p.m. First Sergeant D.F. Purcell of the Special Problems Unit was informed a wanted suspect, Shawn Dao, 40, was in the Paradise Estates area. First Sergeant Purcell discovered Dao was wanted out of Stafford County, Prince William County, and had a revoked license due to a prior DUI incident. With these facts, and a picture of Dao, First Sergeant Purcell responded to the area to locate him.

It wouldn’t take First Sergeant Purcell long to locate Dao behind the wheel on Richmond Highway. First Sergeant Purcell conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at The Log Cabin, located right next to the jail. Dao would start the conversation off with an argumentative demeanor, stated he didn’t need to identify himself, and even went as far as rolling up his window. When First Sergeant Purcell informed him, he needed to step out of the vehicle, Dao would continue to refuse, despite First Sergeant Purcell explaining the Supreme Court case, Pennsylvania V. Mimms. Dao would continue to refuse until he was removed from the vehicle.

During a search incident to arrest, suspected controlled substances were located on Dao’s person. Dao took the rather short road trip to Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was served on his outstanding warrants, as well as, felony driving while revoked, possession of controlled substances, and obstruction of justice. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
