The suspect from the Rappahannock Landing subdivision shooting is currently in the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office’s custody.
On October 11th, at approximately 2:45 p.m. deputies responded to the 200 block of Streamview Drive in the Rappahannock Landing subdivision for multiple calls of shots fired. When deputies arrived, they located a 42-year-old Stafford man Derrick Campbell with multiple gunshot wounds. He unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives worked diligently to collect evidence, talk to witnesses, and identify the shooter. They also discovered the shooter and victim were known to each other. Ever since the shooting, detectives have been executing search warrants, collecting evidence, and even traveled to both Maryland and Washington D.C. in attempts to locate the shooter.
The shooter was identified as James Allen Wright Jr, 42, of Spotsylvania. As of this morning just after 10:00 a.m. he was taken into custody by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. Wright is being charged with first degree murder, as well as, using a firearm while committing a felony. More charges may be obtained at a later date. He will be held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
