A 30-year-old Stafford man sped past deputies while driving intoxicated only to be caught up with and charged moments later.
On October 6th at approximately 10:38 a.m. Deputy J.W. McAlister observed a vehicle traveling well above the speed limit on Southbound Richmond Highway near Drew Middle School. Due to his position, Deputy McAlister knew he would not be able to catch up to it and instead radioed to nearby units on the vehicle’s speed and whereabouts. Luckily, Deputy S.C. Martin was just down the road near Cambridge Street.
Deputy Martin observed the vehicle traveling 84 MPH and it was speeding up. Deputy Martin was able to catch up to the vehicle on the Falmouth Bridge and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Charles Street. The driver, Nathinal Schofield, would passively resist deputies during their interaction. Suspected controlled substances were located in plain view, as well as, a summons for driving while suspended issued just over a week ago. Schofield displayed signs of being intoxicated during the interaction.
Schofield was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of controlled substances, driving while suspended, reckless driving, and refusal. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,500 secured bond.
