A wanted 28-year-old Fredericksburg man attempted to outrun deputies last night on a bicycle. He was unsuccessful and earned additional charges.
On September 18th at approximately 9:43 p.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci and Deputy W.A. Bolinsky were traveling on Truslow Road when they observed a bicyclist traveling the opposite direction of traffic with no lights. Realizing the potential danger of riding around at night without any lights, Sergeant Demirci and Deputy Bolinsky attempted to pull over the bicyclist. Instead, the bicyclist began peddling faster resulting in a bike vs cruiser pursuit.
With the pedal to the pedal, the bicyclist rode over the grass and circled a house in an attempt to flee from deputies. That attempt failed and Deputy Bolinsky was able to get out of his vehicle and remove the bicyclist from his bike. The suspect, who was actively resisting, then attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly stopped by Deputy C.M. Sterne who had just arrived on scene. After a brief struggle the suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect, Alexander Atkinson, was discovered to be wanted out of Spotsylvania for a felony capias. Deputies located suspected controlled substances on his person, and determined he was intoxicated. Atkinson was charged with four counts of obstruction of justice, possession of controlled substances, possession of paraphernalia, public intoxication, as well as, riding a bicycle without headlights or reflectors. He was also served on his outstanding warrant. He was held without bond. |
